When
the clock stroke 5:00 o’clock in the afternoon yesterday, our office decided to have a break and play billiards. It has been months since i last played billiards i readily felt excited. My lappy however, was still downloading a torrent file and it’s nearly finish so i can’t close it yet. Instead, i set my lappy to hibernate after 45 minutes. To make this possible, i use “amp winoff”, a small yet powerful and efficient software.
I forgot to bring along my cue stick so i just chose one of the crappy cue sticks in the display. While playing, I received a freaky message from an unknown sender, the contents of which is reproduced hereunder, to wit:
Greetings! Mr. (my complete name with middle initial except that she misspelt a letter). This is (the sender’s name) from Astoria Plaza Hotel. This is regarding your raffle stub that you filled up at AUTOCYCLE. I have a good news for you. Please call me at 6361964 or 6361967. Thank you.
Huwaaat??! Is this a joke or yet another prank text message? I could not even recall having joined any raffle or lottery of any kind. Haha bizzare message indeed. Instead of calling, I replied her with this:
“What is it all about? Could you tell it to me thru text as I can’t possibly call right now, i’m driving. Or if not possible, i’ll call you tomorrow when im in the office”
Her reply was not responsive to my question. She merely said, “ok, you may call me tomorrow”. My suspicion reached its apogee when she did not answer my simple inquiry and in not giving any details about the alleged raffle. I had helluva lot of things in mind then. What could be the price i allegedly had won? Could it be a car, trip to Europe, trip to Disneyland? Or trip to neverland haha! If either of the latter three is the case, i would trade it to a trip to Timbuktu, Istanbul, Pakistan or Tibet. haha! I’ve always wanted to travel to these places. i paused for a moment then said to myself, no, this is just a joke. I shrugged off the idea, kept my phone in my back pocket, then continued playing billiards.
We played three more sets before we decided to proceed to our respective homes and rest. But instead of heading straight home, i asked my friend atty fajardo if he could join me in starbucks at the ground floor of the same building where we played billiards. He nodded so i tagged him along. I was happily greeted by a seemingly friendly barista. I asked her if i could get a partner’s discount haha oh yes, i pretended again to be a barista in starbucks Timbuktu haha (actually i said MOA 4). I had a brief chitchat with the R1 (that assigned in the counter). When fully convinced that i am indeed a partner, she asked for my ID so she could swipe it or something. I had nothing to show so i readily said i left it at home and suggested if i could use her companion’s ID for the discount. She acceded. Haha. My bad! When the other barista called out my name, i took our drinks which were neatly placed in a paperbag, then left the store.
I did not go home. I headed back to our office to get my stuff, my laptop etc. i woke my lappy up, checked my email for a while, my blog, then unwarily, ended up chatting with my friends. Cyber friends whom i don’t personally know but they make me LOL! Til my tummy aches. Since time immemorial, i set my lappy to read aloud the time every hour. When it said, “ it’s 12:00 o’clock AM”, i bid them goodbye and good night. I logged off, opened somebody else’s blog, read a little then sent my lappy to snooze.
I inflated my airbed, replied to some text messages, thought of that freaky message and the raffle again, then set off to sleep.
When i woke up, i reached for my phone to look at the time. It was still early so i set it to sound an alarm after 30mins. Couple of minutes ago, my phone received an SMS. With my half-opened eyes, i lazily read the message which came from an unknown sender. it says:
“han deto ka na replay, lod mko 150pesos”
i got totally pissed off so i replied the sender, “Gagu!”
