A great speaker named Jim Rohn often suggests that everybody should study ants and adopt their philosophies. I agree with him. Ants have often been used in fables and children’s stories to represent industriousness and cooperative effort. In the Book of Proverbs in the Bible, ants are held up as a good example for humans for their hard work and cooperation. They have amazing philosophies.
First, ANTS NEVER QUIT. If they’re headed somewhere and you try to stop them; they’ll look for another way. They’ll climb over, they’ll climb under, they’ll climb around. They keep looking for another way. What a neat philosophy, to never quit looking for a way to get where you’re supposed to go.
Second, ants THINK AHEAD. They think of rainy season all summer. That’s an important perspective. You can’t be so naive as to think summer will last forever. So ants are gathering in their food for the rainy season in the middle of summer.
Third, ants are POSITIVE THINKER. They believe and are confident that the rain won’t last long. And on the first warm day, the ants are out. If it turns cold again, they’ll dive back down, but then they come out the first warm day. They can’t wait to get out.
Fourth, Ants WORK AS A TEAM. When their colony is flooded, they float and swim together as a team. Ants appear to operate as a unified entity, collectively working together to support the colony. Ant societies have division of labour, communication between individuals, and an ability to solve complex problems
Lastly, How much will an ant gather during the summer to prepare for the rainy season? All that he possibly can. What an incredible philosophy, “all-that-you-possibly-can”.
Learn from the ants - Never give up, look ahead, stay positive and do all you can.
okay, this must come as a surprise, but i have an award for you.
Posted by kayni at January 23, 2009, 1:56 am@kg block their way with baby powder.. i guarantee you, they’l find somewhere else to go. OR, you may pour kerosene or alcohol with 70% solution on their colony. this will kill most of them and the lucky ones will surely migrate to some other place probably to mordsith’s
hallo glennjay, droppin’ by!
there are no ants here, at least, not in our house. when we were in bohol in 2007, my husband saw for the first time a big group of ants, busy crossing a vine in one straight line. he was so amused that he got sugar from the restaurant and dropped them somewhere along the ants’ way. i think he was staring and laughing at them for more than 30 minutes, how busy they were hauling the sugar granules away.
They also are brilliant builders, and are excellent at solving problems by using their team skills. It has often been said that a single ant is fairly useless, and will die very quickly, but together, a whole colony acts like a single creature, with remarkable intelligence and understanding.
